Discover Opera was created by Karen Klett to share her love and extensive knowledge of opera with others. Karen first discovered opera at the San Francisco Opera where she attended a performance of Puccini’s Tosca with Leontyne Price that ignited within her a passion and obsession for all things opera from which she has never recovered. In addition to teaching an opera appreciation class for the University of New Mexico’s continuing education division, Karen lectures for The Santa Fe Opera during its Summer Festival Season and works throughout the year on special projects within the Opera’s Education department. A former artist-in-residence in the Opera’s Student Produced Opera program, she is also involved with other members of the Education department in providing professional development and mentoring activities for the current program artists. In addition to her work as an educator, Karen has acted in stage plays and in Universal Studio’s Red Sky at Morning and Shoot Out and is currently working on a novel set in the operatic world of Italy’s early eighteenth century and on a series of opera essays.
